I’m back, after a frenetic seasons camping throughout the school holidays. Now that the campers have slowed down I can breath out and return to posting a few items on the website, so here goes.

This is a great time of year to sow grass and wildflower seeds so I made my annual visit to Emorsgate Seeds to purchase seeds that I can use to resow parts of the campsite that have worn out or where we have created an opportunity to introduce some new species. Everything we do at The Secret Campsite is an attempt to create a Sussex focused habitat where a wide range of indigenous animal, plant and insect species can flourish for our campers to enjoy, and it works brilliantly. This┬ásummer was filled with stories of Glow Worms, Adders, Marbled Whites, Elephant Hawk Moths and Great Crested Newts and numerous Dragonfly’s.

This year I bought the following seeds to add interest to the camping areas and to create great food and shelter for a mixture of little creatures

Yarrow Achillea Millefolium

Agrimony Agrimonia eupatoria

Sneezewort Achillea ptarmica

Common Bistort Persicaria bistorta

Quaking Grass Briza media

Sulphur Clover Trifolium ochroleucon

Crested Dogs-tail Cynosurus cristatus

Marsh Foxtail Alopecurus geniculatus

Common Bent Agrostis capillaris

Sheeps Sorrel Rumex acetosella

Sheeps Fescue Festuca ovina

Having cleared each area i will set about sowing the seed mixtures and watering them in, if this great hot camping weather continues.

We’ll see how they are getting on in the spring.

The overwintering seed that we sowed for the songbirds in the spring has done brilliantly and we should have a bumper crop for the birds that want to hang around the campsite over the winter, lucky them.

To finish I thought i’d add in a question. Is this the moon or the sun rising?
