In September I went along to the Bentley Woof Fair to meet up with Jason Thawley from Luminair who was exhibiting a rather exciting variation on traditional camping, the Tree Tent. The Tree Tent is an eccentric spherical structure suspended between a number of mature trees and covered with a snug fitting and weatherproofed canvas jacket. It has two windows and a door, and was recently featured on George Clark’s amazing spaces. We are waiting to hear back from Lewes District Council following our submission of plans to instal one of these futuristic new Tents, here at The Secret Campsite in Sussex. Last week the Parish Council in Barcombe approved our plans to site the Tree Tent on the edge of the Ancient Woodland which surrounds the campsite on three sides. If approved, it will be suspended 2 metres above the ground with views to The South Downs, and will be accessed via a raised walkway from the edge of the camping meadow. We should hear back from Lewes District council by mid January and then we hope to have the tent up and running as an exciting camping get away for couples from April 2013.
