Over the winter we decided we needed to upgrade our reception and office space at our lovely campsite as we have a few exciting changes happening at the Secret Campsite this year.
So, having dismantled the old buildings and recycled all of the recyclable parts we put down the foundations for our new campsite offices. The original building was made from asbestos cement and a really rubbish timber shed like thing. This has now gone and we have got as far as the new timber frame building minus a roof, which hopefully, goes on next week. The building was made by local company Solo who are based in Sussex. This is their first campsite building
Here are the fascinating foundations
and the rather more exciting scaffold
We have lots happening at the Secret Campsite this year when we will be working closely with another similarly minded campsite EcoCamp Uk We can use the new offices as a great base for our work together which ill talk more about soon. Once the building is up and running we will install lots of habitats for local creatures, particularly bats and birds who will use the building for shelter and for building nests.
I’m really excited about having a campsite reception with some light and a better space for our secret teapot cafe. We will have a wood burner installed to heat the building, although with today’s insulation requirements we could probably heat the whole thing by taking our shirt off are going for a run.
We hope you like our progress to date and look forward to welcoming you to The Secret Campsite in Sussex at some point over the summer and showing you around the building, if you are interested.
More pictures of the building will go up in the next few blog posts.
