After short and not very arduous negotiations we have finalised the plans for this years Wildlife Festival run by Sussex Wildlife Trust and the enigmatic Michael Blencowe who runs the Lewes Community wildlife project. The event takes place on the 1st-3rd July here at The Secret Campsite 4.5 miles from Lewes in East Sussex. This is the fourth year we have hosted the festival at The Secret Campsite and as before we will have a packed agenda of events and talks to cram into the 2 days.
It promises to be a feast of entertainment for all ages, so read on and see some of last years action where you raised….
£1,790 for Sussex Wildlife Trust
Last year it rained on the Sunday morning, but undeterred we still found moths and mammals. Here is the report from last years festival. This years festival will be running along very similar lines with moth trapping, bat and bird walks, lots of bug catching in the camping meadow, forest craft skills and some mammal traps that are always great fun.
The campsite has some fantastic wildlife to enjoy including the glow worms which are great to look for as night falls over the camping meadow and a variety of different bats which we can listen to, using the bat detection monitors that Sussex Wildlife Trust kindly bring along to the event.
The final agenda will be published nearer to the date once Michael has finalised talks etc but you can book tickets now using the link.
In 2013 we found the very rare Scarce Forest Tubic so make sure you bring sunglasses, your magnifying glass and some calming salts.
Prices are £72 for adults and £36 for children aged 5-16. Under 5’s should make a donation of £6 to Sussex Wildlife Trust at some point over the weekend.
Have a look at some of the photos from last year, the wildlife festival is brilliant.
We look forward to meeting you
